Rehabilitation Therapy

Rehabilitation therapy uses many of the same techniques that human physical therapists use, adapted for animals.

Rehabilitation therapy includes manual therapies such as joint mobilizations, soft tissue mobilizations and medical massage, photobiomodulation (also called Cold Laser Therapy), Pulsed Eletromagnetic Field Therapy, Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) and therapeutic exercises.

These therapies provide our pets with pain relief and improved recovery from orthopedic or neurologic surgeries.

The goals of Rehabilitation Therapy include increasing the functional range of motion of the body's joints, restoring myofascial health and decreasing pain to improve our pet's ability to perform their activities of daily living with less pain and dysfunction and improve their quality of life,

Veterinary Medical Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the stimulation of points on the body through the insertion of very thin needles into tissues and muscles. These needles influence blood and lymph flow, relieve myofascial tension and trigger points, modulate nerve signals in the spinal cord, and release anti-pain and anti-inflammatory molecules from the brain, spinal cord and local tissues.

In conjunction with traditional therapy, acupuncture improves pain management, helps with some internal medical conditions, relieves painful muscle trigger points and stimulates nerve healing and improved function.

Most pets tolerate acupuncture well and relax during their treatment!

Veterinary Spinal Manipulative Therapy (VSMT)

Spinal manipulation is a gentle technique used to release joint surfaces that are not moving freely.
I use my hands to perform a specific high velocity-low amplitude thrust to restricted, or hypomobile, joints of the spine and extremities.

Restricted motion in any part of the body (whether from arthritis or injury causing abnormal movement patterns) can force other joints to compensate. The strain on those areas then lead to
problems in the joints, nerves, muscles, tendons and ligaments causing reduced joint motion and joint stiffness, muscle tension, muscle atrophy, reduced circulation, reduced nourishment of joint cartilage, and can lead to the development of chronic pain.

Spinal manipulation has a positive effect on the nervous system (called neuromodulation) that results in pain reduction and improved comfort, function, mobility and health.

The goal of this therapy is to promote optimal and pain-free motion in the joints of the spine and limbs and support the nervous and musculoskeletal systems.
